Passion for wine and wine care
We have been living the passion for wine and wine care for almost 30 years.
CHAMBRAIR is different due to its origins. Rolf Butenschön, the inventor of the CHAMBRAIR wine climate cabinet, visited a château in Margaux in 1981. There, the following question wouldn't leave his mind:
Why does wine taste better at the vineyard than at home?
The following answer of Winzer's was the basis for the development of CHAMBRAIR wine climate control cabinets and the foundation for wine care in Germany:
“The wine must be protected from sunlight, must rest undisturbed and must not undergo any temperature changes. The cork must remain springy, and this necessitates an appropriate humidity level. Fresh air is also necessary to prevent the growth of mould. These conditions are not present in a refrigerator.”
Upon the successful technical implementation of this advice, the CHAMBRAIR GmbH was founded on 11th January 1983. Today, CHAMBRAIR is ubiquitous in upmarket gastronomy circles and also enjoys an excellent reputation in the industry, in the wine branch and among private connoisseurs.
The name "Chambrair" is a made-up word, derived from the German word “chambrieren” (to bring wine or cheese to room temperature- in turn derived from the French noun “chambre” - “room”) and “air-conditioning”. Today the word is even used in everyday parlance as a generic term for wine climate cabinets of other manufacturers.
The original insight of our company founder still applies today: "The connoisseur is not recognized by the wines, but rather, how he cares for them."
